Canteen is, among other things, an experiment in well-designed and thoughtfully produced words. We hope that the print magazine's look and feel will spark an interest in reading that is sometimes curtailed by so many Times New Roman words piled carelessly on top of each other.

We are also striving to inspire Harlem middle-school students by publishing their creative writing in a beautiful sister magazine to Canteen. The stories, poems, and memoirs come from semester-long workshops held at the new StreetSquash Center and taught by published writers who volunteer their time.

Our goal is to champion the creative spirit, and we could really use your support.
